Real talk: Who breaks out at the most inconvenient times? And most instances after that? I do. What about that harsh winter dry skin? YUP. Who has spent hundreds of dollars on skincare products with little to no idea on how to read the ingredients? SAME.

I don’t know about you, but puberty hit me hard with oily skin and uncontrollable acne. Since the seventh grade, I have been falling hard for the “quick, miracle fix” gimmicks (i.e. products from Neutrogena, Proactive, Cetaphil, etc.) just desperate to put a stop to new breakouts. The outcome?  Unpredictable, oily skin (same old, same old).

As I look back, my embarrassing teenage years are not what make me cringe. Instead, I am totally disgusted by the memory of lathering so many unknown chemicals on my body and with no thought of the long term affects.

Catherine Ubiera, the founder of Cimaruta Therapeutics, is also deeply disturbed with most skincare products sold in popular stores such as CVS, Target, Walmart, etc. In her interview she stated “Honestly, many of the ingredients in commercial products are concerning. There are a lot that are of little to no value to the body and even some detrimental. The goal for many of these companies is to sell.”

Cimaruta, an Italian word meaning “a plant with deep roots in spirituality and healing”, officially launched in 2014. The brand's mission is to bring back the OG healing ingredients to natural skincare that have existed for thousands of years.

From their first product, Goat’s Milk & Honey Soap to now carrying over 25 different homemade products, Cimaruta is looking to continue growing their brand to cover every skincare avenue.

Best Product for Oily Skin?: Oil….yes oil. Enough with these “Oil Free” facewashes and moisturizers. Your skin needs oil and will overcompensate when there is a lack of it. The Facial Moisturizer Serum will fulfill your skin’s needs and keep you looking fresh.

Best Product for Dry Skin: Rose Face Toner and Rejuvenating Face Serum. Also find anti-aging benefits from these products.

Best Product for Acne Prone Skin: Raw Honey Face Wash

  • Pro Tip: pair with Anti-Inflammatory Facial Moisturizer

Items That Fly Off of the Shelf: Natural Toothpaste and the Rejuvenating Face Serum

The Low Down on Catherine’s Everyday Skin Care Routine:

  1. Wet face before gently lathering the Raw Honey Face Wash for about 30 seconds

  2. Pat dry and follow with a spritz of the Rose Face Toner

  3. Air dry for a few seconds and finish off with a pea sized amount of the Rejuvenating Face Serum

  4. Add in the Coffee or Lavender Scrub once a week

Catherine and her business partner (aka future husband) reside in Salisbury. Off hours, you will find them in the outdoors hiking and/or camping. Whether Catherine is concocting the newest skincare product or fulfilling her passion for cooking, she is dedicated to using the freshest and most ethically sourced ingredients possible.
